Painful periods after c-sections

I had my second baby 9 months ago by c-section (first was also c-section). Still breastfeeding but periods returned last month. Have experienced horrific period pain two months running now which is really debilitating. Is this normal? This didn't happen after baby 1. Could it be connected to the c-sections? Any advice would be very welcome.

Hi Bridget. I've had 2 c sections and am breastfeeding an 11month old. Did anybody mention scar tissue/adhesions to you? They get worse with each section and can be uncomfortable generally speaking. My periods are still very irregular, super heavy and uncomfortable. I actually tried using a cup (never thought I'd go there!) And it helped quite a lot with the discomfort! A bit messy at times though... I think it does take your body a long time to return to normal and with you still feeding it will take longer. You aren't on your own anyway :-) x

Thanks Rorymum. Sorry to hear you're also suffering. I know adhesions can cause issues but I have been really floored by the level of pain and don't think I can deal with this every month while working and going about normal family life. Hopefully it will settle down in time. It's early days as you say. I just didn't expect it to be so much worse than the first time round. X
