Found a lump and I can't get to my gp

Ive just arrived in Turkey for 3 weeks and have found a large lump on my breast, I've got cysts already but this feels different it's hard and doesn't move and it wasn't there a week ago. I'm in full panic mood at the moment and don't know what to do as I don't thing my holiday insurance covers this
Do I try and fly home? Do I try and go and see a dr here or do I wait till I can get home to see my GP. I'm so scared at the moment and feel all alone my other half is not being much help and burring his head in a bottle of brandy. I'm trying to put a happy face on for the kids but I can't keep that smile on my face. Thank you for reading x

As pp said a gp can't help. Get your insurance to help you find a private clinic. Hopefully they might pay!

derekthe1adyhamster · 19/08/2018 10:23

Just something which might help. I found a lump 4 days before travelling and got to a gp. She decided to refer me the day before I flew back.Because you have to be seen within 2 weeks. But in the mean time, my lump vanished. I did go to my appointment and will have a mammogram but it's nothing to worry about.
My lump didn't move about either.
I think try and stay and put it out of your mind if you can. Make the appointment asap when you get back if it's impossible to have a telephone appointment

DM is currently waiting for a mastectomy (next week).
The consultant she saw told us that the "operation within 31days" target laid down by the government isn't important.

If it's cancer, several weeks won't make any difference, and if it's not cancer, then all is well. It's the not knowing though, isn't it? Thanks

*not sure if 31 days is correct, but whatever the target is, it's not important.

I have just got back from seeing a Dr out here, they think it's ok but are sending me for a scan on Tuesday just to be safe. I can relax a bit now and hopefully on Tuesday I can then start enjoying my holiday
Thank you all for your replies they really helped keep me calmer than I was before I posted x

Do you have health insurance? Some of th offer their own telephone GP service so you could use that. If you are not insured then I honestly wouldn't bother flying back. The NHS is so apalling slow at dealing with cancer that the three weeks is unlikely to makeuvj of a difference.

I have everything crossed for you butterfly.

That's really good news. Fingers crossed it's nothing and also that you can enjoy the rest of your hols!

MeAndTheMajor · 19/08/2018 14:31

That's great news. Fingers crossed for Tuesday. Hope you can start to enjoy your holiday now!

lljkk · 19/08/2018 21:15

I may be wrong but I don't think cancer changes from nothing to a large hard lump within one week. It doesn't sound like you're feeling ill, otherwise. Update us again in a few weeks?

Haggisfish · 19/08/2018 23:42

Oh keeping everything crossed for you. And your partner.

ProcrastinatingPingu · 20/08/2018 08:30

I hope everything goes well for you and you can then enjoy your holiday.
I had a scare late last year but luckily it was nothing sinister, the not knowing is awful though.

Jeippinghmip · 21/08/2018 13:39

Please let us know how you get on. I hope everything is okay for you.

butterfly359 · 22/08/2018 08:16

I've had my scan and the dr said it was a blocked lymph node gland and that it would sort it's self out.
I'm going to get it checked by my GP when I get home just to be on the safe side x

Call your insurance company? Maybe they will cover a flight back for this?

LemonysSnicket · 30/08/2018 18:16

Oh sorry I didn't see the date! That's good! What a horrid holiday!

Jeippinghmip · 30/08/2018 22:19

Good news OP x

butterfly359 · 11/09/2018 09:14

I went to my GP to get the lump checked and he said it's not a blocked gland WTF!! He has referred me to the breast clinic on Friday. (I got the appointment a couple of hours after seeing my GP) my GP also told me I need to take someone with me this time?? I've been before for my cysts so know what's going to happen but never been told to take someone with me, I usually go on my own.
Fingers crossed my GP is just being over cautious x

Thanks for update, please let us know what happens next.

JLG19 · 11/09/2018 09:50

Oh, what a way to make you feel more anxious! Is there someone that can go to the appointment with you? It's good that you've gone to your GP for a second opinion. Hope all goes well on Friday.

tribpot · 11/09/2018 10:14

Best of luck for Friday. Do you have a written medical report from the exam in Turkey? I would take it with you if so.

butterfly359 · 11/09/2018 13:59

Thank you ladies, will let you know how it goes on Friday. My husband has booked the day off work so he can come with me.
Friday can't come quick enough, my anxiety is bad at the moment. I'm trying to keep busy and not think about it but that's easier said then done. X
