Opinions on contraception please

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone could offer me advice or opinions about something.
I started taking the contraception pill when I was 17 so nearly 20 years ago, because my periods were horrific. I struggled with the combined pill and switched to the mini pill about 25 years ago. It's been perfect for me since then.

Last October, my periods started coming every 2 weeks. I got checked out, blood tests, scans etc and everything is fine. The dr just thinks my body is used to my pill and has recommended switching to the coil.

I'm really reluctant too because my struggles in the beginning were weight gain. By switching to the mini pill I lost 3 stone within 4 months without changing my lifestyle so pretty sure the hormones were to blame. I'm still overweight and still struggle with losing it and I'm terrified that switching will make it worse.

My DH has offered to have the snip and for me to come off all together- which I would love - but... I'm worried that my periods would revert to what they were when I was 17.

Does anyone have any similar experiences or any advice?

I should mention, due to history of breast cancer in my family, I can't have eastrogen

Is the GP suggesting the Mirena? My periods were horrifically heavy and now I have the Mirena, I still have periods but they are very light.

Yes, that's what they have suggested. That's good to know, thank you

There are some negatives, I had very light spotting for about 6 weeks and I have had a very small weight gain but this could just as easily be because my job is now much more sedate and I’ve reached the perimenopause.

I’m on my second Mirena though as the pros really have massively outweighed the small cobs for me.
