Odd smell

I've changed my name temporarily for this. Also I can't ask in my ttc group on Facebook because I know people there. So anyway...

We are ttc #2 and have been at it for three years. It's hard to explain why we are so desperate s I know people will blast me for spending so much on a baby when I already have one. However it is also giving my DH and I a reason to make time for each other and spend alone time when it comes to FW every month.

However occasionally, like today, there is a smell. I shower first thing in the morning so I'm not unclean but when I go to the bathroom for a wee there's a sort of salty smell that is here too. It's literally only the day after dtd and it's not every day. Is there something I'm doing wrong? It's gross and I want rid but can't obviously use anything too harsh as we are ttc.

Sounds normal for unprotected sex. But if you are worried get a nurse to check you at your doctor's practice.

Incidentally you could have a acidity imbalance, have you looked into that? I'm sure I read a newspaper article of a study that had some ttc women drink a bicarbonate drink each day, and it lowered their acidity and they had a higher rate of conceiving than the control group.

The smell is semen - perfectly normal.

Thank you both. I was just unsure as there are times when we don't have this problem with a slight odour so I thought maybe it was something wrong.

@holidaylady what sort of bicarbonate drink? Like just a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda? Sounds gross but I'm willing to go for anything at this stage 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Yes I think so. It was really basic, as far as I remember. It did make me think that perhaps there is something in the acidic/ alkaline food one eats.

If it were me I would find your local British medical herbalist as they will be able to help with your body being in its best state for ttc. I did this and mine figured out I wasn't even ovulating! So much for 'just keep trying' which is depressing after a few years. Nope. Become empowered and educate yourself.

I went to my GP (nurse) for exactly the same issue as you many years ago. She had a look asked when I'd last had sex and said cheerfully that's just it smells like! Blimey I felt stupid!

But now due to Mumsnet and us helping each other out with stuff that's embarrassing IRL you don't need to go through that!

It sounds quite normal to me. Wee can smell odd at times depending on what you have eaten or drank. Stop worrying - but if you can't stop worrying, tell your GP or practice nurse and they'll organise a urine test.
I'm sure you'll be fine. Drink plenty of water and lemon & barley water is very good for the urinary system as well as being lovely (if you like it).

It's gone now. I've just been worried it was us doing something wrong and the sperms were getting stuck and not reaching their desired destination
