Hysterectomy.

Hurrah and Hallelujah. My uterus has been given an eviction notice!

30 years of being a complete bitch. Let me down twice (miscarriage and ectopic). Did what it should do twice (2 grown up DDs). Never officially diagnosed with anything but suggestions have been PCOS and endometriosis. 30 solid years of hideous periods. 30 years of being fobbed off by assorted GPs who told me it was normal to faint, vomit, incapacitate and take over my life for one out of every three or four weeks.
It’s got to the point where my cycles are just 18-20 days long, I bleed huge amounts for 5 days (emptying cup every 2 hours), overflowing, clots. Light bleeding on and off for a further 4 days. Bleeding on and off randomly mid-cycle. Puking and dizzy. Period diarrhoea, excruciating, labour style pain. Another 3 days of pain while i ovulate plus bleeding then too.
Tried everything. Mirena - I bled for 8 months then it fell out. Painfully. Pill - unhinged. Drugs - I’m allergic to the good ones and the others don’t work so well. Herbs, flowers, tea, homeopathy, diet - all bollox.

Finally saw a Dr who actually listened and agreed to whip the bugger out. Not sure how yet as apparently it's ‘bulky’ (like the rest of me) so need a scan to see how big it is. Also waiting on smear results and endometrial biopsy (which hurt like a bastard and is still hurting 4 days later).

Glad to hear stripes

I am feeling much better now.

Bringbackthestripes · 04/05/2019 17:20

Megan my results letter reached me 6 weeks post op. I didn’t google, I thought I was just having weird hormonal surges in the first couple of weeks & it didn’t occur to me it was a common thing. Wow -headhunted, a salary hike and close to home, sounds fantastic!

Eustacia that’s great. I wasn’t prepared to feel suddenly worse at 5 weeks though so keep taking it slowly.

Hello, can I join in here. After years of struggling I am now having a hysterectomy, well I think I am. Had an ablation in September 2017 which has reduced my bleeding but I am in so much pain, days of it around ovulation and the same around my period. For various reasons I can only take paracetamol.

Anyway today my gynaecologist agreed to a hysterectomy but not before trying zoladex for three months to shut down ovulation- if the hideous pain stops then we know a hysterectomy will work.

Bit nervous about it all really, the zoladex and ??ibolong to counteract the side effects of the zoladex and then surgery.

I am in the throes if divorcing and home alone with a dog and a thirteen year old - not sure how all that will work.

Has anyone else had medication to stop ovulation before surgery?

EustaciaVye · 10/05/2019 19:08

Box like- same story as me. Ablation fixed the bleeding but the pain crept back until it was for two weeks of the month.

Zoladex and tibolone eradicated the pain completely. It was amazing.

I'm not sure they actually found much endo or even adeno in the OP so I wonder if it was a post ablation pain thing. Who knows...

I am nearly 4 weeks on from hysterectomy now and much better. Hot flushes starting though Blush

boxlikeamarchhare · 10/05/2019 21:21

Really, that’s great, IFSWIM, even though it isn’t - did you have any side effects from the drugs?

I am a complete wimp when it comes to medication- life saving is fine anything else, where I think I have a choice scares me silly.

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 11/05/2019 12:38

Just had my letter saying the consultant agrees to do a hysterectomy for me and I'm now just waiting for a date.

Only a few more horrendous periods to go for me then!!!

AnneOfAvonlea · 11/05/2019 13:20

Box - EV ;) side effects were awful migraine for the first 4 weeks of zoladex before the start of tibolone. Other than that it was mainly just achy bones. It was manageable though compared to everything I had been feeling before. Definitely lesser of two evils.

boxlikeamarchhare · 11/05/2019 22:12

Thanks very much for replying Anne. My gynaecologist has prescribed both from the off. I am glad to hear it worked and was ok. I am in agony at the minute, morning, noon and night, it’s ovulation week.

MeganChips · 12/05/2019 19:01

Box I hope it works for you. Being in agony all the time is no way to live.

I have had a funny few days with random pains in my abdomen. Not bad but definitely there and they keep moving. At the moment they are to the right of my belly button and down a bit.

Funny thing is I have been far less active this week. Perhaps I need to walk a bit more.

Has anyone else had this?

MeganChips · 12/05/2019 19:01

Great news Iamnobird!

AnneOfAvonlea · 12/05/2019 19:58

Hi Megan - EV here. I felt much better but tummy feels really heavy and tender today actually. Wondering if I have just done too much the last few days. Will be 4 weeks on Tuesday so it is relatively early still.

MeganChips · 13/05/2019 18:01

Hi Anne, sorry to hear you’re feeling worse too.

I have been wondering what I did and I think it was down to the mother of all asthma related coughing fits. Time to rest up again for as long as I can!

5 weeks tomorrow for me and I’m feeling about the same as I did at 3 weeks to be honest. There is no way many people are fully healed at the magic 6 week mark surely!

dennis10 · 14/05/2019 17:42

I’ve just been offered a hysterectomy at 34 for heavy period and pain in sex i thought it was what I wanted but reading some of the side effects and problems I don’t know what to do
I’ve been sterilised and was told the burning the lining of my uterus won’t work because I’m to young and won’t help my pain

boxlikeamarchhare · 14/05/2019 18:16

I am thinking of bottling out of surgery. I just feel like I am getting my life on track, divorcing, feel free and happier than I have done for years.

I accepted a challenge to row a marathon for charity last month and am feeling fitter and healthier than I have for ages.

The thought of side effects, surgery and logistics is slightly terrifying, especially as it will involve putting my life on hold for months.

I am going to chat to my gynaecologist GP, see what she thinks.

dennis10 · 14/05/2019 18:25

I feel like my issues arnt as bad as others peoples and I might be doing something massive and making it worse
I’m worried about prolapse and still have pain in sex or even lower sex drive

dennis10 · 14/05/2019 18:27

I should add I have a tilted uterus and the doctor said this isn’t the course of my pain yet google say it can I’m confused

nordstrom · 14/05/2019 20:07

@boxlikeamarchhare and @dennis10 I'm having those sorts of feelings too. I swing between thinking this will be for the best in the long run to worrying I am making a huge mistake.

nordstrom · 14/05/2019 20:07

I also have a tilted uterus.

nordstrom · 14/05/2019 20:08

I've just realised I'm back to my old username! (I'm hysteriawisteria)

dennis10 · 15/05/2019 07:54

Nordstrom do you have pain in sex I really feel like he’s going to pop out of my belly I mean he’s not small but there’s not many percions that it doesn’t hurt and it’s putting a strain on us

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 15/05/2019 11:47

I can't wait for mine! It's like my womb knows it's on borrowed time- this period is bad and the back ache is crippling. Only a couple to go before no more ever!

nordstrom · 15/05/2019 14:28

@dennis10 no I don't thankfully. Sounds awful.

boxlikeamarchhare · 15/05/2019 20:09

Mine stems from realising that I will have to put my plans on hold for six months Nordstrom. It’s like ‘why now’ 🤷🏻‍♀️?

PostNotInHaste · 31/05/2019 06:58

How is everyone doing? Had first Prostrap injection yesterday so it’s all starting to feel a bit real, September starting to creep round. Bit worried about the side effects but I already have joint pain, insomnia, fatigue and random anxiety from peri menopause so hoping I don’t notice too much difference. Am focusing on diet and exercise to try and minimise any weight gain. If I’m one of the people who lose weight on it I will be delighted !

Foo2 · 03/06/2019 20:48

I'm 12 weeks post op today and had been feeling pretty good - but have been so sore again for the past week/ten days. Back on the painkillers again and seeing the GP on Friday. I can't even think of doing anything much that might have overdone. Am supposed to return to work next Monday too (honestly not lead swinging!).

Anyone else had similar pain so long after surgery?

PS. Very glad to hear about the lack of cervix being fine too! Wink
