Breast screening

I'm 51 (and a half) and had a conversation today about breast screening. Apparently most women are invited from 47. I've never received a letter so have never been screened. Am I alone?

You should have received one by now. I had my first just before my 50th birthday. I would contact the GP.

I dont think most women are screened at 47. I am 47 and recently had a mammogram as part of a new initiative to screen SOME women aged 47 and over.

However if you havent been called for screening by 51 you should ask your gp.

Thanks for your replies, I'll phone this morning. Confused

GP said from 47 years and gave me BS telephone number. BS service said between 50-53, although I am due to be called in the next few months.

i think it was pilot in some (UK) areas to go from 47, but maybe being rolled out now (for current 47yos). I declined until I had an actual lump to investigate.

I'm 49and recently had an appointment for breast screening. A number of my colleagues have also been called - it's a pilot study for women under 50 and over 70 in certain areas.

It's actually a good idea for you to go as they have a baseline/history for you and then when you go again they can see any changes. The earlier you go the quicker you will be in the system IF there was anything wrong.

I go for anything I'm called for medically (BP check, asthma check, smear et) It's a MASSIVE benefit of living in the U.K. and having our fabulous NHS.

I've been called since I was 47 as part of a trial. I have no family history of breast cancer.
