Depo - bleeding for 8 weeks and other side effects

So a bit of background info, I’m 23 and have been on contraception for most of my teenage years/adult life because of horrendous periods and recently, PCOS (diagnosed earlier this year).

I had a Mirena coil for 3 years that caused me a lot of problems and I had it out in Feb this year. Was off contraception until I got the Depo injection just over 12 weeks ago. I have had the Depo in the past but then stopped it to have a coil and as far as I can remember I didn’t have any adverse side effects. This time around has been different. The first month was ok, a bit moody but nothing too bad. Then the bleeding started and hasn’t stopped since. It’s been just over 8 weeks of constant bleeding - the blood varies from old looking brown/black blood to thick bright red blood and it varies in heaviness. Some days it’s been lighter than others but always bleeding. My hair has also started falling out in handfuls - especially when I brush it or wash it. Luckily my hair is very thick or I’m sure I’d have nothing left!! I was due For another Depo injection on the 26th July but I haven’t been as I’m not having it again. I’m in a lot of pain, I’m absolutely exhausted all the time and I look drained and ill with big dark circles under my eyes. I’m crying all the time because I feel so down and tired. My skin is also terrible - loads of big sore spots that look awful.

Has anyone had anything similar happen and how long did it take for the bleeding to stop and the side effects to wear off? I can’t find much info on the internet apart from stats on how long it takes to get pregnant after coming off it.

I bled all the time and put on tons of weight with it. I had 2 and have up. I went onto the mini pill cerazette after that and that stopped my periods

Gave up*

@dementedpixie I had lost almost 3 stone before having this injection and now I feel the weight has crept on a bit so that’s another reason I don’t want another - I’ve worked hard to lose weight and still have more to lose to try and improve my PCOS so don’t really want to be putting it back on!

I can’t take any form of the pill sadly as I got terrible migraines with all of them and was told I would be at risk of a stroke if I continued to take it which is bloody wonderful

Mini pill should be ok as like depo and mirena it has only one hormone unlike the combined pill. Do mini pills give you migraines too?
