Help please! Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Ok so last night I had excruciating abdominal pain on my right side. I thought it was just ibs type pain so I left it and it seems a bit better today. I am used to having terrible period pains etc but I have the mirena coil now so don't get bad periods anymore.

But this morning I've starting getting stabbing pain in my pubis area (hope this is the right term! had to google lol). I've never had this before. It's not really bad, just more uncomfortable. Sorry if this is too much info but I've also got a bad smelling discharge. I also feel really weak and lightheaded but not sure if this is related.

It's definitely not an sti or anything like that. I am married and we are both faithful, we both had clear checks when we first started dating years ago.

I've done some reading and it seems to point to PID, endometriosis or ectopic pregnancy. I really don't think it is the last one though as the chances of pregnancy on the mirena are really slim.
I've had really bad experiences with doctors in the past so really don't want to go. I don't think I would have enough courage to go to the doctors on my own and no one is able to come with me. Plus the earliest GP appointment I can get is in two weeks time and I am even more afraid to go to the walk in centre.
Can anyone help?

Have you done a pregnancy test to rule out ectopic?

Pain and smelly discharge sounds like an infection of some sort and that won't get better on its own. You need to see a doctor

Sounds a daft question, but you haven’t left a tampon in have you?

I had similar pains twicw a while back and I'm on the mirena coi (probably about two weeks between both attacks). It was similar to labour pains and I had to kneel on the floor to breathe through the pain!

Couldn't get the gp who fitted my coil to check me over as she was on holiday so was advised to go to the sexual health clinic. They had a drop in so went to that - had to wait for about an hour to be seen but the doctor was lovely. Checked me over and checked the coil. She couldn't find a reason for the pains so told me just to monitor. It hasn't happened since. They checked me for STIs too and all came back clear.

So although I can emphasise I can't offer much real help as to what might be going on. But I'd recommend getting seen - it put my mind at rest!

Is your coil still where it should be?

How low is it? Front or back? Is it too low to be kidneys or appendix? Could it be ligament pain?

I had the right-sided pain with the mirena. I stuck it out for as long as I could, then gave in and went to see the practice nurse. Apparently it's quite common for people who have problems with ibs type symptoms to have them made worse by the mirena coil - I had mine taken out. The pain stopped.
The pain in the pubis and the discharge need a gp appointment imo.

I haven't taken a pregnancy test as I didn't really think it was likely with the mirena. No tampon in there, I have checked, not a daft suggestion though as it would be easy to forget .
How do you know if the coil is where it should be? Does a professional check it? I have never even checked for the strings tbh so wouldn't know what to look for.
The pain is low in the front of my body, a pain in the abdomen where I imagine the ovary would be. I also have pain in the pubis (I think this is the right term but not sure).

I need to go to the gp, I know but I am scared of going from past experiences.

Ask to see a female gp? Have a telephone consultation? Take a friend with you?

You need medical.advice if you have pain and abnormal discharge.

And don't wait 2 weeks for a standard appointment. I would say you need to be seen sooner with those symptoms.

You should be able to feel the two small strings of the coil - just go in as of you were inserting a tampon and feel around (!).

But I'd still go and get checked out even if you can feel the strings.

One of the risks of coils is that the strings can act as wick and take bacteria into the uterus. (rarely.) You could have a pelvic infection that is not an STI but still needs ABs.

Please go to your GP.

If you leave it, you might get worse.
