Inconclusive smear results

Hi there

I have just had my second inconclusive / inadequate smear test result. I understand you have three of these in a row and then get referred.

Has anyone else had this? Does anyone know how I can improve the quality of my result e.g. If I came off the pill would that help? Bricking it now that it may be bad news.

I will be going to the doctor to ask but would appreciate advice from anyone who has had 2 x inadequate results.

Thanks

Could it be the method used by the nurse? Perhaps go to the sexual health clinic for the next one, they are absolutely expert in this area.

I had this a few years ago. All was fine in the end. Did you go for the smear halfway through your cycle? I think that's the best time for them to get a good sample. Fingers crossed for you, I'm sure it will be fine.

Thanks ladies I'm on the mini pill so wondering if that is a factor I will come off it if it is.

Hi
There are several different reasons for inadequate samples e.g. not enough cells, too many inflammatory cells, too much blood, cervix not fully visualised when taking the sample amongst others. The practice will get a full report from the lab with the reason so they'll be able to advise you and work out a plan.
