Really weird clots - first 'period' since Mirena

I've been getting these pretty much every time I wipe the last three days are these my periods now!? I'm having really heavy cramping, but not bleeding as such. The clots are really odd, not the usual kind I have with a period. I'm not sure how clear the picture is, but it sort of has white fleshy bits in it as well as the red and dark red bits. It's quite 'firm'.

I'm so sorry, it's such a grim thing to ask I just wanted to see if this was 'normal'. Picture is below.

I'm so sorry if this is perfectly normal!

I've always had quite extreme periods with heavy bleeding and massive dark clots, so this is all a bit new to me.

Hi - I don't know I'm afraid , but didn't want to read and run. The picture isn't showing for me , I have recently had a mirena removed and currently having a dreadful time , this is week 4 of a period for me , back at gp's in the morning. I would say go ask your gp x

It's normal! The same happened to me so please don't worry, it's your body getting rid of all the crap in your system like a build up since you've had it in. It will return to normal I promise, just let your body do it's thing xx

MrsFinkelstein · 09/07/2018 22:35

I take it you mean it's your first period since the Mirena was inserted? The Mirena is thinning the lining of your womb, so it's normal to have a mixture of clots/mucousy/old blood in the first few months.
Its excellent in helping reduce heavy, painful periods, ideally your periods should stop altogether, or at least become much shorter/lighter.

SueDunome · 09/07/2018 22:46

@MrsFinkelstein - no, the OP means her first period since she had the mirena removed.
My mirena fell out of its own accord, followed by the most horrendous period with huge clots. It's normal, I'm afraid, just your body rebalancing and trying to cope with the sudden loss of hormones.

If I'm wrong and it is the first period since the mirena was fitted, I'd get it checked out. The clot in the pic looks like it could contain part of the coil?! Shock
