Please help, I've started lactating

Hi everyone.

I have spontaneously started lactating and have no idea why. I don't think I'm pregnant as I've had periods, but I'm getting a bit freaked out and my GP can't see me for weeks! Thanks

Change GP surgery! When I had symptoms which potentially meant I was pregnant (but I hadn't realised those symptoms might mean pregnancy) the surgery nurse just did a test there and then. I know they encourage you to do your own test st home nowadays but your surgery sounds awful. I wouldn't want to be going through pregnancy and then have a small child knowing your surgery was my point of contact for medical stuff.

I don’t understand why the Gp couldn’t have done a pregnancy test

@impostersyndrome yes that is what I thought of too. Its call hyper-prolactinemia.

Best wishes again and I hope you get sorted today.

The surgery isn't very helpful is it? Hope alls well.

Where I am Doctors stopped offering pregnancy tests a while ago. Cost cutting probably

Battleax · 29/06/2018 11:50

I understand them not wanting people to come in FOR a test Jax, but having some in stock for these situations would seem good practice.

Jaxtellerswife · 29/06/2018 12:04

Very much agree

Tinkofhousepan · 29/06/2018 12:17

Thanks for all the responses! Just did a test and it was negative. Will do another in the morning to be sure though. It's both breasts, no lumps or irregularities on my boobs so I really have no idea what's causing it. The doc took a sample and I have to call on Tues to find out the results. If it's not a conclusive 'you're fine this is what's causing this' I have to go in for a blood test. I have started looking for a new practice, as my one is crap, but they all seem to be the same! So frustrated right now!

Ring them back and tell them the pregnancy test is negative and go back for the other tests. Good luck.

When my friend has this it was to do with her thyroid.

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/06/2018 13:57

This happened to me OP. My GPS organised an MRI to rule out pituitary adenoma and then a referral to the endocrinology dept of my local hospital. I am still lactating on and off 14 years and 2 children later. Thanks
