Possible tampon/coil issue

I have a coil and recently bought applicator rather than non-applicator tampons by accident (I use a Mooncup at home but am not yet confident enough with it for outside) and being a cheapskate decided to use them despite being longer than non-applicator. I've used them for a few days without issue but tonight on removing one felt slight pain similar to having a coil removed or inserted. Once the tampon was out I felt my coil strings which were straight down rather than coiled around the cervix but I couldn't feel anything protuding but don't know whether that means the coil is definitely in place. I think I might have had a couple of twinges since, but knowing me, that could be psychosomatic! Has anybody experienced this, and if so, what was the outcome? I'm kicking myself for not just buying new tampons, which is what I'm going to do now.

@PencilSkirt my body expelled 2 copper coils and each time I had sharp pains on and off for months. If it doesn't feel right I would just get it checked. I ended up at a family planning clinic with the last one, as no one else would help. Do you have one in your area? Often they are drop in clinics. Hope you get it sorted Smile

Thanks for the response. I haven't had any pain today but will try to get to the famly planning clinic to get it checked. Problems or pregnancy are not something I want right now.
