Just read a book from the library called The Help - it's set in Missippi (sp! lol) in 1950s and is about black servants working in white households. Is a big, thick book and a fantastic read!

just wanted to pass it on and see if anyone else had read it

I agree- It's wonderful. I saw it reviewed in the Times, and ordered it straightaway. Wonderful insight into the lives of black womes, but also a great story.

I'm currently reading this after hearing a lot of it serialised on Woman's Hour on Radio 4. It's set in the 1960s, and it's a good read. I don't know how much insight there is there into the lives of real black women, as it's by a white writer who is trying to imagine how it might have felt to be a black maid, or one of the white women they worked for, at the time.

My local library have just told me that they have it waiting for me.I was 2nd on a list of 15 people waiting for a copy.I'm really looking forward to reading it.
