Has anyone read this? I read it a couple of years ago and it’s stayed with me…not because I loved it but I just didn’t get it…anyone else?

It’s a few years since I read it. I remember liking it but being disappointed by the ending because it effective just… ended. Lots of unanswered questions.

Yes that’s how I felt. The miniaturist was just written out with no explanation of how/why etc. I read this book 3 years ago and am still annoyed about it! I just wondered if anyone had any more insight and was wondering if I missed something.

The miniaturist character is meant to function as a mirror to the protagonists lives and acts as a catalyst forcing them to confront their secrets, hidden desires, and fears, rather than a puzzle to be solved. They remain something of a mystery, like Mr Quin in the Agatha Christie books.

It was such a disappointment of a book. I also am still annoyed about it

I loved it.

I absolutely loved it, and there is a sequel, which I think I own but haven't read.

I’ve recently read the sequel. Just don’t expect any more answers than in the first book!
