What was the last book you read that really got to your heart?

Mine is Project Hail Mary, I didn’t know anything about the story before I read it, just the cover blurb. I really, really enjoyed it and it really tugged at my heart strings. I won’t say anymore about it as I don’t want to give any spoilers away.

John of John by Douglas Stuart. Superb!

A Patchwork Planet, The Accidental Tourist, Breathing Lessons..any of them..All of them...but keep you hanky close..I read one (can't remember which) on a long haul and started holiday with a very red nose and watering eyes..(not a pretty crier).

Tell me Everything by Elizabeth Strout.

She's the same sort of genre as Ann Tyler.

Heart breaking

Theo of golden….a slow start but a magical book. Loved it so much.

This one definitely got me too. I had to finish it late one night because I didn’t want to cry again the next day! 😭🤣

I've read a fair few books over the years, but only two fall into the category of "got to my heart".

The first book is Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, by Dee Brown. I first read it as a 14-year-old in 1972 and have re-read it a few times since then.

The second book is Wild Swans, by Jung Chan. I read it on holiday in 1996.

Last book I cried while reading was Demon Copperhead. I was bereft when it was over

Yes, a truly amazing book.

I second this. It was recommended by a friend, but I should have read the synopsis more first. It’s a great book, I would have waited a bit longer after losing my Dad to read it though.

Mine is Pornocracy by Jo Bartosch. A pp described Radium Girls as "both heart-breaking and enraging," and that's how I felt reading this.

I get so upset and angry when I think about the pornified world that girls and young women are growing up in and how it damages them.

It’s one of the best novels I’ve read in recent years - and I read a lot. It’s absolutely gripping.

Tender is the Flesh, by Agustina Bazterrica. I absolutely hated A Little Life, and am ploughing through Heart The Lover just now but not loving it, so I think I am a bit of a monster really!

I'm currently reading The Great Western Beach by Emma Smith. It has many delightful recollections of living in Newquay, between the wars, but it has a sinister undercurrent of the fear of their father's anger. This brings depth but is disturbing.
