Emily Wilson’s The Odyssey

Just wondering if anyone has read this one, really? I’ve got it on order, and I can’t believe it’s the first female translation!

Haven't read it - but apparently she's retranslating it from scratch...

I'm rereading it now. It's excellent and the audiobook of her translation narrated by Clare Danes is excellent too.

I’ve just bought it today! Very excited!

It’s a very good , readable translation. Ignore people who criticise it for being ‘feminist’ - she’s translating what’s there and the original has many strong female characters. My only criticism is that she misses out a bit on some of the poetry. The language is generally quite plain. I have just bought Daniel Mendelsohn’s recent version and will be interested to see how it differs.

First English translation by a woman. Anne Le Fèvre Dacier produced her French translation in 1708.

Not sure what else a new translation would be?
