If I liked the Temaeraire series

What should I read next?

I liked that it was easy to read but not clichéd or "fluf". And that there was plenty of action but also lots of focus on relationships (but mostly not romantic relationships). I found most books in the series to be page turners.

I have also read and enjoyed the Patrick O'Brien books.

Any recommendations for what to read next? I'm not bothered about genre (apart from police procedurals which I'd rather avoid).

Temeraire! (Can't edit the title unfortunately)

One of my absolute favourite series! Naomi Novik is fantastic. Napoleonic Wars with a dragon Air Force - who could ask for more??

Her books Uprooted and Spinning Silver are also very good.

If you enjoyed the fantasy aspect, Katherine Arden's The Bear And The Nightingale are based on Russian folklore and are good.

If dragons are the appeal, there's the huge Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey, or A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan.

Napoleonic era - Obviously the Bernard Cornwell Sharpe books are excellent, and you're already all over the Master And Commander series. Simon Scarrow has done a quartet following Wellington and Napoleon from birth to Waterloo which is quite fun.

Georgette Heyer's Regency romances are great as light and witty entertainment. I'd suggest Cotillion, Frederica, Venitia or The Grand Sophy as introductions to that world.

Genevieve Colman’s invisible library sequence is a different type of fantasy world but satisfies similar moods for me.

Tbh it wasn't fantasy or dragons or the Napoleonic era that was the draw (although I did love Sean Bean as Sharpe back in the day...) it was just that it was a great adventure, with characters I cared about, and minimal romance!
