I haven't read Grace yet, but loved Prophet Song, so am interested in your response to this novel.

I think it’s beautifully written and obviously the famine ( that wasn’t really a famine) is a harrowing tale and he highlights the dreadful things that happened during that time. Now I’m writing this I’m actually changing my mind and thinking it’s a wonderful piece of writing but I’ve found it very long and at times quite confusing.

It's on my to-read list, but I've not yet purchased a copy. But I definitely will. What makes it confusing for you do you think?

I think maybe my own fault because I’m leaving big gaps in between reading it so I have to keep reminding myself
of what’s happened
it’s quite dreamlike as it goes on which I think reflects her increasing disorientation due to starvation

Oh I loved Prophet Somg, but didn’t until about 2/3 of the way in so I am looking forward to Grace. I imagine though, like you OP that I’ll struggle at first. I think he is an outstanding writer though and a man who can write women!
