As the title says, really! I read The Poisonwood Bible earlier this year and ADORED it, read Demon Copperhead a couple of years ago and enjoyed the way it was written but it felt like a bit of a chore to get into the story. I would like to try another of her books as I enjoyed TPWB so much, so looking for recommendations.

I haven't really got on with any of her others, TPB is one of my top 5 favourite books.

It’s definitely up there for me as well. Just so well crafted - great characters, interesting plot, funny in parts, heartbreaking in others. Political but not dry. I loved everything about it.

I love flight behaviour

Chocolatefreak · 20/06/2026 14:27

Loved the Poisonwood Bible. Have read some of her others including Demon Copperhead but none come close.

I really like The Bean Trees - found it in a secondhand bookshop and bought it because I'd just finished The Poisonwood Bible. Very different story, but again with engagingly written characters.

The Lacuna is genuinely one of my favourite books, highly recommend!

Prodigal Summer
(Eddie Bondo…swoon!)

Pigtailsandall · 20/06/2026 20:02

I really loved Lacuna so would definitely recommend it

shivermetimbers77 · 20/06/2026 20:06

I absolutely loved The Lacuna and Flight Behaviour. Both amazing books and real page turners.

Goodmorningeveryone26 · 20/06/2026 20:07

like others here, the PWB is one of my favourite books. I recommend it everywhere! Could not get into The Lacuna at all. Tried three times. I also LOVED Demon Copperhead.
OP, have you read We Need To Talk about Kevin? It’s dark, but incredible

Goodmorningeveryone26 · 20/06/2026 20:07

Also couldn’t get into Flight Behaviour!

Santasbigredbobblehat · 21/06/2026 07:18

I find her books hard to get into in. I’ve read Unsheltered, but it was honestly a struggle. I started Prodigal Summer too, but couldn’t continue.

The Bean Trees and its sequel Pigs in Heaven.

mamaduckbone · 21/06/2026 08:03

Those are the two of hers that I’ve loved. Unsheltered is ok, but I haven’t managed to finish Lacuna even though on paper I should enjoy it.

The Bean Trees and its sequel Pigs in Heaven.

I second this. Early Kingsolver, and not quite morphed into what eventually became her groove, but both highly enjoyable.

(waves at Sheila 😊 👋)

I loved Unsheltered and it’s themes of how we define home and family

MyTrivia · Yesterday 09:52

Me too, TPB is one of my favourite books.

I love most of them. The Lacuna is my absolute favourite as I really loved the historical aspect. The Bean Trees is short, you can't possibly not get into it.
