Anyone else noticed performative bookstagram accounts popping up in their feed?

I do follow some bookstagramers just for some recommendations on books, to see what is coming out and even for older books I might have missed. I'm noticing that I'm seeing a weird kind of bookstagramer in my feed these days. Its usually a woman who films reels of her pouting into the camera, and just holding up books not saying anything, maybe spraying on some ultra expensive perfume or posting shots of books and expensive perfumes. There is one a woman in her 40's I think called booking things who hugs her books and makes theatrical swooning faces over the books. One day she's swooning over Anna Karenina, the next East of Eden. I get they are being paid to promote books but its just so weird.

Anyone else noticed this?

Who would be paying her to promote out of copyright books?

I’ve not had anything like this pop up like this in my feed. They sound bizarre.

That sounds weird! I follow a lot of book based accounts but they all do actual reviews. It’s like the glamorous models on game shows of old stroking the kitchen appliance and going oooooh!

I’d be willing to give it a go if they paid me. As long as there’s no long fake nails tapping the books, that drives me to distraction…
