Has anyone read Breathe With Me by Becka Mack - why so pornographic?

I saw this book and thought it might be quite good. It's supposed to be about fertility struggles but it's just a load of tripe and there are an insufferable amount of graphic sex scenes. I'm not prudish at all, it just seemed too much.

I'm confused about the high ratings. Maybe I'm not bought in because I haven't read the earlier books in the series but, aside from that, the writing was cringe and the characters were awful. Is there something I'm missing?

I haven’t read it but it looks like it’s an ice hockey romance. The graphic sex is the main reason most people read those books - that’s the important thing about the genre! Same with romantasy.

If you don’t like graphic sex scenes, it isn’t the genre for you. It’s like reading a murder mystery and complaining that there are murders.

There are certainly non-spicy romance novels out there, if that’s more your thing?

A quick google shows it’s mostly referred to as a ‘sizzling hockey romance’ - and romance books tend not to be particularly literary… But it does sound like you’ve been given the impression it was a very different type of book?

I didn't Google search it myself, maybe then i would have known what to expect. I just saw it on the shelf, read the back and thought it would be a good read.

I've read a few romance novels, with quite a few sex scenes and they tend to blend well with the story, even in a fantasy type way. I just felt this one was way OTT, shoehorned in at every possibility, and took away from the storyline, as every other bit seemed to be about sex. I wasn't a fan of the writing style either, and the characters were unlikeable (imo) but the breaker for me was the OTT sex. The book cover and blurb did nothing to suggest it would be quite so.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
