The Housemaid - Give up or does it get better?

Everyone at my book group was shocked that I've never read anything by Frieda McFadden, so I started on The Housemaid to see what all the fuss is about. I'm 20% in and really bored, it just feels like the story isn't progressing and it's all a bit simplistic. Normally I think life is too short to continue a book I'm not enjoying, but everyone was so insistent she's an incredible author I'm reaching out to a different group of bookworms to ask your opinions on this one.

Same sort of thing as the DaVinci code. A bar of chocolate, a packet of crisps and then it's gone. Easy and quick to digest, fills a small hole in time. Never to be remembered. Until a film of it comes out, which it did, which I watched, and which was far worse than the book.

I gave up, it’s quite twee and lightweight. My DH enjoyed the film, which had nothing to do with Sydney’s nude scene

Was probably the best thing about the film to be fair!

I don’t think her books are well written but have read the 3 housemaid ones and did enjoy the twists. I think of them a bit like reality TV tbh! A sort of occasional guilty pleasure 😂
