50 Books Challenge 2026 Part One

Southeastdweller · 01/01/2026 08:06

Welcome to the first thread of the 50 Book Challenge for this year.

The challenge is to read fifty books (or more!) in 2026, though reading fifty isn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, and please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

If possible, please can you embolden your titles and maybe authors as well of books you've read or going to read? It makes it much easier to keep track, especially when the threads move quickly at this time of the year.

Thank you @Southeastdweller

Signing in to shiny new thread

GrannyTeapot · 01/01/2026 08:19

I haven’t been reading as much in recent years as I’ve been studying in my spare time, I’ll join and hope for the best lol.
I started Happyhead in the early hours of this morning when I couldn’t sleep, and will be starting Menopause Yoga (I like having a fiction and a non on the go at the same time),

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 01/01/2026 08:20

Hello 👋

Signing in; I managed 25 books last year so I'd be happy with 26, but I'm going to aim high!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/01/2026 08:23

Swinging in to mark my place. Got a review to come later! Happy New Year Everyone! 🥳

SheilaFentiman · 01/01/2026 08:30

Love your username @DontGoJasonWaterfalls

Peonyperfection · 01/01/2026 08:32

I’m in! My pile of unread books is getting too high, I have The Other Mothers -Katherine Faulkner to finish then I’ll choose from my big pile.

Southeastdweller · 01/01/2026 08:35

Forgot to mention as it always come up as a question on the first thread of the year that yes, you can carry books over from last year to add to your 2026 total (and totally up to you!).

I'd love to join. Used to read constantly and I'd love to reduce my screen time in favour of books!

Just started a book. It's not great but I'll go with it as my first! I'll tell you what it is when I pick it up later as can't remember the title!

Greenpeanutsnail · 01/01/2026 08:37

I’m in too! Just added to my ‘to be read’ pile with some new Kindle books. Cormoran Strike book 8 is 99p on kindle for today only.

Georgiemc · 01/01/2026 08:50

I’m in! I started Trio - Johanna Hedman last night

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/01/2026 08:50

New people ! The thread goes fast this time of year. No one thinks it’s a competition and all types of books are welcome, don’t be put off!

(Posting because of criticism on another thread)

Terpsichore · 01/01/2026 08:56

Thanks for the new thread @Southeastdweller - and Happy New Year to all 50 Bookers old and new 🎉🥳

SilverShadowNight · 01/01/2026 08:58

I’m in. Currently finishing two books. Concentrated on reading rather than scrolling last year, and joined in the read what you own thread. And I seem to have more kindle TBR books than anyone else 😆

Frannyisreading · 01/01/2026 08:59

Good morning and a happy new thread to you all!
I've got a TBR shelf groaning with delights and can't wait to get stuck in.

firstofallimadelight · 01/01/2026 09:01

87 books read in 2025. Aiming for 100 this year.

InTheCludgie · 01/01/2026 09:06

Happy New Year 50 Bookers, I'm in again for another year.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/01/2026 09:07

Yolandiifuckinvisser · 01/01/2026 09:12

I'd like to rejoin this year, failed to get any traction with reading last year and fell off the thread. I got a nice pile for Christmas so something to get me started! Happy New Year everyone!

Georgiemc · 01/01/2026 09:15

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit I loved The Land in Winter

333FionaG · 01/01/2026 09:16

I’m a voracious reader and would love to join. I’ve just finished Happy Bloody Christmas by Jo Middleton, an Amazon Prime read and I am distinctly unimpressed 😒

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/01/2026 09:17

It’s had mixed reactions @GeorgiemcI’m intrigued as to whether it will suit me

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 01/01/2026 09:26

Happy New Year! Thanks @Southeastdwellerfor getting the ball rolling. Looking forward to another great year of book related chat.

I'm starting the year with Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi on audio, and Bournville by Jonathan Coe on kindle.

@EineReiseDurchDieZeitI also loved The Land in Winter - it's my joint favourite of the Booker shortlist so far, having read 4 of the 6.

BeaAndBen · 01/01/2026 09:28

Happy new year, book listers!

I got nine books for Christmas so my tbr stack is teetering on my bedside table already.

Yuja · 01/01/2026 09:28

Thank you for starting - my favourite thread of the year!
