THRILLING news! Simultaneously: how could they ever do it justice?!
I will actually sign up for a subscription just for this. Enjoyed the film, sure, but Pugh playing Cathy will really be something to watch.

Any other books you are half-wishful and half-terrified (the risk of it being ruined!) that Hollywood et al will bring to our screens?

Mine are:
The Abhorsen books by Garth Nix
Summer Crossing by Truman Capote - I read the rights had been bought by Scarlett Johansson but nothing seems to have come of it since… thankfully!

It's my favourite book of all time. I'm interested to see what they do with it.

Ooooo I will definitely be watching with excitement and trepidation. It's also one of my favourite books - an absolute tour de force of a story.
Ciaran Hinds is so similar to how I pictured Sam Hamilton 🤩

Oh that’s great!

This has been on my TBR pile for years. I have read Grapes of Wrath and that was a 5 star read but the bleakness has made hesitant to pick it up. It will now have to move to the top. I think 2026 will be the year of backlist American epics for me. I keep seeing lots of reviews for Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurty and The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy.
