...it's back on BBC iPlayer. I've not seen it, but gather it's one of the best adaptations so will definitely be watching it over the Christmas break!

Thanks - I don’t think I’ve seen that one.

’My’ Jane Eyre is the 1973 one with Sorcha Cusack and Michael Jayston. I was 12, and that was the first ‘Sunday night classic series’ to grab me and make me gobble up the book before the series had finished airing. The theme music was Elgars ‘introduction and allegro for strings’ which was a bit anachronistic yet perfect.

Is that the one with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stevens? It is excellent, although like @ErrolTheDragon I am of the Michael Jayston era.

We were reading at school at the time it was broadcast and agreed that he was too handsome for Rochester. Mind you, so is Toby Stevens 😍😍

@TonTonMacoute yes. That's the one.

I don't think I've ever watched an adaptation (probably out of worry for the book), but I'm looking forward to watching this (nearly 20 years later 😂).
I definitely have a thing for Mr Rochester, even though he's so bloody toxic! 😂🫠

yes… and then there was Timothy Dalton (he was quite wooden in the part too imo)

I thought the Timothy Dalton one was the best TV adaptation, partly because there were a lot of episodes so the book didn't have to be abridged, but the most recent film with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbinder caught the spirit of the book very well.

Oh me too, it's the witty banter that gets me. I just melt! Toby Stephens is gorgeous and really caught the sarcasm of the character.

Samantha Morton and Ciaran Hinds were best.
