House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski. Worth it?

I’ve just finished The Haunted Book by Jeremy Dyson. I loved the whole conceit of it being like a literary equivalent of “found footage” and the book-within-a-book-within-a-book structure, plus being really well written and spooky (I was definitely jumpy whenever the house creaked while I was reading!)

I was looking for books like it and saw The House of Leaves recommended as another creepy story presented in similar way, but I’m a put off of by all the mentions of pages of footnotes etc. Has anyone read it? Is it worth it, or just too postmodern for its own good?

It's really good!

It's amazing, very worth it. It's a very unique experience unlike anything else I've ever read.

I think it depends on the person. I just couldn't, ex H thought it was amazing. Give it a try!

Okay, you’ve persuaded me! I bought a copy, and will check back in few weeks to tell you what I thought,

Interested to hear your thoughts @MrsFrumble it's been on my bookcase for a year but I've struggled to find the time and attention to commit to it between work/family/life in general
