Thank you for posting. The Taliban seem determined to ruin themselves and to be as cruel and stupid as possible.

Agreed with @PermanentTemporary .

It's pretty much impossible to imagine how it would be to live there as a woman or girl.

Thank you for this thread op. The situation in Afghanistan needs to not be forgotten. Even if remembering makes no difference.

Also, I'm thinking ... frightened? Like they fear the possibility of smart, capable women?

Those of us who live in the West have no reason to feel smug. The woke left is every bit as vicious, intolerant and hate-filled as the Taliban, it’s just the target that’s different. They might not ban books by women, but they would like to ban or re-write many of the classics, especially those written by dead European males. In fact, the left have been attacking the literary canon for decades. Harold Bloom was warning about this fifty years ago.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous, both in the comparison and in your so biasedly trying to blame lefties.

An absurd comment.

I think there were frequent suicides by wives under the first Taliban regime. I keep wondering what would happen if wives started secretly aborting, or smuggled themselves out of the country, or started slowly poisoning their husbands.

I don’t feel smug about not living in a country run by the Taliban, I feel distressed that anyone does.

To equate academics pointing out missing perspectives in literature presented as worthwhile, to the Taliban, is beyond ludicrous. The use of the word ‘woke’ in a negative sense is becoming a helpful sign of non-thinking though.
