Bookshelf above radiator - will my books be damaged?

Not a “What we’re reading” question but I thought this was a good place to ask.

I have a lovely collection of nonfiction books on an interest of mine (some older than others but not old-old), some quite large, illustrated etc. I’m planning to put them on a bookshelf in a corner with a radiator below. The books currently there seem fine so I don’t think the heat/change in temperature will cause problems.

Has anyone had books damaged by radiator heat?

How far above the radiator are the books?

Yes. It wasn't a book that mattered (cheap secondhand duplicate copy), but I left it on a windowsill with a radiator underneath and the cover was warped. I wouldn't put any book I cared about above a radiator, especially a hardback.
