I’m flying long haul with my son. He will put headphones on and drift for hours on end. I on the other hand am quite wriggly in these situations. I need an enthralling book that I can be fully absorbed in

any recommendations ?

I enjoy Louise Penny and her brand of cosy crime. Favourite book ever is probably A Prayer for Owen Meany

Have you read A Widow for One Year by John Irving? It's a huge tome but I loved it. Also, Wally Lamb's The Hour i First Believed.

Uricon2 · 03/09/2025 10:15

The Dr Ruth Galloway detective series, forensic archaeologist working with the police, most set in North Norfolk. Great cast of recurring characters.

The first in the series is The Crossing Places.

ETA Author is Elly Griffiths

Still Life by Sarah Winman

Why not try the classics? It's surprising how gripping people like M. R. James can be. And of course Sherlock Holmes. Classics are classics for a simple reason – they're really, really good.

American Dirt by Jeanine Cumins. Total page turner and exactly the right thing for a flight. Reader discretion is advised due to some content (someone mentioned me once when I recommended it on another thread and said they loved it but could have done with a warning.)

IShouldNotCoco · 04/09/2025 22:24

The Lamb by Lucy Rose. Pretty gruesome but fascinating and definitely a page turner.

TheGander · 05/09/2025 08:21

Midnight in the garden of good and evil.
