Loved the Dear Mrs Bird series by AJ Pearce I’ve finished the last book though Sad

Looking for something similar based in the war world eras preferably in first person though like the Dear Mrs Bird books. Not to keen on third person when it comes to historical fiction.

Any suggestions please? Smile

I cant remember whether they are third or first person but the trilogy by Lissa Evans Old Baggage Crooked Heart V for Victory and also The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society I would put all in the same bracket as Mrs Bird All WW2

How many are in the series? I think I've read two but feel there was a third but not found it yet.

I have just read one that is a ladies diary, set ww2. Currently trapped under the dog but if you're interested you can have it.

There's 4

Transcription by Kate Atkinson. Life After Life is set partly in WW2. Olivia Manning, Fortunes of War - absolutely brilliant but not first person
And, of course, The Cazalets.

Thank you. I'm trying to buy second hand to save money and wastage. Not easy to find.

Mrs Tim Carries On by D E Stevenson. (Fictional) diary of an army officer's wife in wartime. Light humour and the annoyances of every day life against the serious background of war.

Some of Monica Dickens' novels are set around the war. Marian, One Pair of Feet and The Fancy. Again, not written in the first person though. Have a look at Persephone Books list - lots of possibilities there.

The Bookbinder of Jericho? It's set during ww1 about women who work in bookbinding

Oh wow, so glad I opened this thread. I also love this series and have read the first three but didn't know that a fourth one had come out.

Like a PP I can recommend the Old Baggage, Crooked Heart, V for Victory trilogy by Lissa Evans. But also by the same author I loved Small Bomb at Dimperley. This is set immediately after WW2. I keep hoping it will turn out to be the first in another series, though it might just be a one off.
