I am wondering now if Raynor and Moth had cash with them on their walk

They borrowed more than the very large debt they owed for her embezzlement. I now wonder if they were carrying cash with them on their very long hike. Knowing her background story, I believe she would always have access to money on these walks.

I agree. Embezzlement is a pretty serious crime.

I am wondering how she has managed to escape charges and culpability for what she has done.

I think it's pretty 'bad' to embezzel 64k from an employer who has cancer.

Yes, it's very serious. I'm not saying it isn't bad, I'm talking about how amoral people would look at it.

Embezzlement like that is done over a long time, usually it's justified as 'borrowing' with the genuine intention to pay it back, but then spirals out of control. Then no one notices, so you do it again. She may not even known how much it was until confronted with the full amount.

I've no idea if this is what happened, and I'm certainly not trying to justify it. I'm merely speculating that they are like the friend I mentioned - who lives in a half fantasy world and doesn't think, or care, how their actions affect those around them.

The fraud case was dropped once the money was paid back. I think the relative of Moth’s has them sign a contract?

As far as I understood she borrowed the money from the relative , paid back her boss and made him sign and non disclosure saying her wouldn't take about it. As he is now dead his wife is able to discuss it.

Thats how I understood it. What I don’t understand is that they owed £64k for the fraud yet borrowed £100k. Why borrow and extra £36k at such crippling interest rates?
