Used Kindles for years my latest one is a paperwhite with 3g connectivity. But it's on the blink, very slow and keeps freezing. I've tried switching in and off and updating it. I think im going to have to buy a new one. There's several different models and I cant see a difference and I don't think they do the 3g version anymore does anyone know if there's a massive difference ir should I get the cheapest. Just to add I use it every day.

No advice in the new models I’m sorry but mine has become a bit stuttery recently too.

Yeah mine keeps saying there an error about 1/4 way through a book and says to delete and download from cloud, also very slow on page turnover.

I have the paper white but tend to read kindle mainly on my phone through the app. Particularly handy for the train so not having to lug the kindle around .

I have the Amazon fire because I like to borrow from my library. Each one I had has lasted about five years.

I would message Amazon about it as they might give you a voucher off for a new one. I’ve smashed one and had one keep freezing and both times they gave me 20% off a new one.

I have the basic model and love it. I researched the difference between the paperwhite and basic extensively a few years ago and concluded that the extra cost of the paperwhite wasn’t worth it for me. I recommend having a look at some reviews to get an idea of the differences. The paperwhite may be worth it to you. It’s always rated highly on here. It’s worth waiting for Prime day- you’re likely to get a good discount.

Mine started doing this and Amazon replaced it for a reconditioned model. I was surprised as I'd had it quite a long time. Could be worth asking.

Definitely look for trade in offers. But yes to the cheapest basic Kindle or, if you read in the bath or at a spa, get the Paperwhite, as it's waterproof.

3G isn't needed because you just use wifi.

You could even try a second hand one from Cex or eBay as they can be relatively low cost.

I have the paperwite already as I mainly read in bed, I like the 3g because if we ate away from home not everywhere has free WiFi and I often forget to load it up before I go but I will definitely get in contact with Amazon.

If youre buying one theres a Prime day next week so hold off til then

rurbane · 30/06/2025 09:06

Not sure about the 3g but I've got a paperwhite with ads and it's worth the £20 saving. Instead of a random pattern screensaver I get a random picture of a book.

Been in tough with Amazon and yes it's faulty and out of warranty given me 15% off but I might wait until prime day .
