Has anyone been on a reading retreat

Saw a brilliant recommendation from another Mumsnetter earlier and had to share!
It was for a retreat-style break that combines proper downtime (think books, fresh air, no rushing about) with some lovely low-key activities – yoga, shopping maybe even a bit of swimming. Basically, the dream mix of calm and doing something without it being full-on.
I’ll try to find the link again if anyone’s interested – just sounded like exactly the sort of relaxing escape I’ve been fantasising about lately. Has anyone else come across anything similar?

That was exactly my initial reaction too — It sounded a bit unnecessary at first. But then I started reading more about some of these reading retreats, and they’re not quite what I expected. A lot of them include author events, readings, sometimes even workshops or themed discussions, which actually sounds really fun — like getting to combine the quiet pleasure of reading with a little bit of community and inspiration.
What really appeals to me is the flexibility. You’re not stuck in a structured schedule unless you want to be. You can dip into the group things — like meeting an author or going to a book talk — or just curl up somewhere peaceful and read on your own. It’s not so much about replacing a solo getaway as it is about enhancing it with some thoughtful touches and optional extras. So now I kind of get the appeal.
