Can I recommend this to anyone who's looking for a funny, light, well-written book to cheer them up? I absolutely loved it.

Agreed. It was popular on the 50 bookers thread. I enjoyed it and wouldnt have picked it up if it hadnt been recommended.

The world is a very depressing place at the moment. This cheered me up. I've also been watching the first season of The White Lotus because I thought it would be escapist, but I'm finding it quite dark.

I absolutely loved it too, in fact I reread it straight after finishing it.

Also loved this one.

I also highly recommend the ‘Old Baggage’ trilogy by the same author. Brilliant books.

Oh thank you so much for this, I had no idea she had a new book out. I loved the Old Baggage trilogy. Holiday reading sorted!

Scout2016 · 15/06/2025 22:11

Me too OP! I was excitedly waiting for it to come out and it didn't dissapoint. I didn't love it like the Crooked Heart trilogy but that isn't a complaint, I just really clicked with those characters.
I enjoyed Finest Hour too, I think that's a good holiday read as well.
You can tell she worked in TV because her dialogue is wonderful and I can pucture it all so easily. It takes a lot of skill and talent to seem so effortless.

I loved the Old Baggage books and Finest Hour. I must check this one out too. Thanks for the recommendation.

I loved this too and the trilogy with Old Baggage. Also Finest Hour.
Was kind of hoping Dimperley would be the start of a series
