Israel Zangwill ?

I was reading an article that mentioned, in passing, Israel Zangwill: “a novelist whose popularity was frequently compared with that of Dickens” described as “one of those sculptured gargoyles in a mediaeval cathedral” and was “one of the worse-dressed men in London.”

Dickens, really? That got me interested. Have any of you read him?

I’ve read all of his work. There’s a nice independent press that republishes a lot of his stuff.
