This message contains spoilers! Don’t read it if you haven’t read the book.

I have just finished this book and I did think it was good but there’s one plot hole that’s really bugging me so I’m hoping I’ve just missed something.

At the end of the book it says that Savannah removes her bangle and throws it in the bin, just before she goes downstairs to answer her door for the last time.

So how does the bangle end up at Susan’s house? She finds it down the side of her husband’s bedside cabinet. This is a key plot point because it’s how Susan found out that her husband knew Savannah. However there’s no reference in the book to anybody finding the bangle in the bin at Savannah’s house and taking it to Susan’s house. Are we meant to just think that Jon went back to Savannah’s house at some point, found it (despite the fact that he wouldn’t have had a clue where it was) and inexplicably brought it home for his wife to find? Or did Greta take it and plant it in Susan’s house (which also doesn’t add up because Greta had no reason to know that the bangle even existed and wouldn’t have known it was in the bin).

I feel like I must be missing something obvious so hopefully someone else has the answer!

Savannah bought a replacement bangle and had it engraved when she realised it had been lost in Susan’s house.

Thanks, I missed that. Still doesn’t explain how it got to Susan’s house though as Savannah never went there, and Jon was really surprised when it was found suggesting he hadn’t left it there (there’s a scene where he’s thinking back to what Savannah was wearing and he’s relieved because he can recall her wearing the bangle - which he wouldn’t have done had he known he’d brought the bangle back to his house).

She did go there, John said he was housesitting for his brother and sister in law. Savannah stayed over and lost the bangle there.

Yes of course she did! Thank you!

No worries 😊 the bangle bothered me too right up until near the end when it was explained that she’d bought a new one.

I was obviously reading too quickly and missed that!

I had completely missed that, so I'm glad this thread was posted.

I've always enjoyed Andrea Mara's books and I really liked this one, but then I felt like suddenly everything was tied up very quickly at the end. The short chapters, which I'm sure were a legitimate plot device, just felt too much like she was running out of time to wind it all up

ChessieFL · 02/06/2025 12:43

Glad it wasn’t just me that missed it!

The bangle bothered me too but you are right. It is a flaw though as although he said it was his brothers house Greta lived next door, Not sure anyone would risk taking their mistress back to their house with their sister-in-law next door.
