How to listen to sudiobooks not on my phone

I listen to audiobooks at night to go to sleep. I've been listening to YouTube audiobooks on my phone but find it hard to stop myself scrolling when I wake up and would prefer to leave my phone elsewhere at night. I've seen that there are mp3 players but I don't really know how mp3 files work. Alternatively a kindle might work. I have a non audio one at the moment. I'd like to be able to set a timer and also an alarm function would be useful. It would need to be Bluetooth.

What audiobook setup would you use for this?

An Alexa would likely fit the bill, no screen, voice controlled, has a speaker, is Bluetooth and you can set an alarm and timer.

I use my kindle fire tablet or iPad but this wouldn’t get around the ability/temptation to scroll

Leave your phone on the other side of the room, and play it through a Bluetooth speaker next to your bed.

I listen through an earbud and would want to select and play something in the middle of the night without talking (so as not to disturb my husband) or getting out of bed. Is there a kindle which plays audiobooks but doesn't have the wider internet?

If you’re listening through an earbud, Bluetooth headphones (if your current ones are not) and then put the phone away from you, opposite side of the room, other side of the bed etc.

If having your phone nearby but not close enough to scroll isn’t something you want, your current kindle may have functionality to use Kindle Whispersync for some books or you could upgrade to a kindle that has this but not the tablet style like a Kindle Fire (e.g a PaperWhite or Oasis).
