Sophocles - English Translations

Are there any highly regarded translations of Sophocles' Theban Plays? I'm reading Robert Fagles' version, but I find them a bit awkward.

Watching with interest.

The Robert Fagen translation is suppose to be good, or there's the Robert Bagg and James Scully translation. Most modern translations are OK, it's the Victorian ones that really take liberties (generally, not just with Sophocles).

Good question. Fagles is the best I've found but I do wonder why there isn't a modern /poetic version -- someone to do what Ted Hughes did for Ovid

Surprised to hear you dislike Fagles. I haven’t read his translation of Sophocles, but his translation of The Odyssey is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read.
