Read it years ago. Try The Carpetbaggers by Harold Robbins for a similar vibe.

Neely O'Hara is supposedly based on Judy Garland.

Just read Scandalous Women by Gill Paul.....a novel about the lives of Jacqueline Susann and Jackie Collins. Really good..I'd just reread Valley of the Dolls

A brilliant read. Try also Lace and Lace 2!

I really need to reread this, I read it as a teenager and I wonder if I was old enough to really appreciate it or if my opinions on the characters would change.

God I bloody hated Neely.

Try Judith Krantz it you like this sort of thing.

I read it way back in my 20s, it certainly was an eye opener. I did enjoy it.

There is a brilliant biography of Jacqueline Susann called 'Lovely Me' by Barbara Seaman. It has a lot of really interesting background on 'Valley of the Dolls' as well as all her other books. She genuinely changed the business of publishing - an amazing woman.
