A shiny new thread for 2025.

All welcome and note 26 is just a number. Everyone can set their own target and you are welcome here even if you only read 2 books a year.

I personally count the larger novel style books I read to my children and audio books I listen to. Others don't and there are no rules.

I look forward to all your suggestions again this year.

Thanks so much @Tinkhasflown . My favourite thread of mumsnet.

Looking forward to another year of books.

Happy New Year of good reading to all

Orangebadger · 31/12/2024 19:34

@Tinkhasflown thanks for setting up a new thread. Looking forward to another year of leisurely reading.

Flowers90 · 31/12/2024 19:35

I'd love to join. Want to get back into reading and out of the phone scrolling habit. Dh brought Me a new reading light for Xmas. It's helped massively this week when I'm stuck upstairs with our 1 yr old

Breathmiller · 31/12/2024 20:03

Hi OrangeBadger and welcome Flowers90. Do you have one in mind for your first?

I have How We Disappeared by Jing Jing Lee ready for bedtime after the Bells.

Soccermumamir · 31/12/2024 20:08

Hi,

Please can I join? I love books and love reading. I want to read more in 2025 now that I have ceased studying for a while 🙂 I have a pile of books on bed stand ready to be read 😆

Yuja · 31/12/2024 21:02

Thanks for the new thread! Looking forward to 2025 reading, I've been on the last 3 threads and really enjoyed the slow-ish pace and people's recommendations.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 31/12/2024 21:08

Hi,
Would love to join in with this please. I have a lovely pile of books waiting to be read.

Flowers90 · 31/12/2024 22:19

@Breathmiller I've just finished the 1st book in the seven sisters series so would like to continue with those. Had them on my TBR pile for ages. Your book sounds interesting I'll take a look at that one!

SmoothOperatorCarlosSainz · 31/12/2024 22:25

I will definitely join. Currently reading the hotel avocado. The main character is a whiny, needy creep but I do enjoy reading it 😹

Decafflatteplease · 31/12/2024 23:28

Hi I would love to join.

For the last few years I've set my target at 24 and it's been 13 then 15 and then this year 18.

I love historical fiction and also like to link my reading to the seasons or month.

Happy reading!

Citygirlrurallife · 01/01/2025 01:31

Hello everyone! Making place for 2025!

therewasafishinthepercolator · 01/01/2025 01:36

Great that you include audiobooks. I'm struggling to "read read" but getting through a lot of audiobooks. Thank god for Audible.

Going to try to include an actual book or two (!) this year. Need to work on my focus and concentration. It's shocking these last couple of years.

IVFmumoftwo · 01/01/2025 08:15

I am aiming for about one book a month as I have two children who are young and I seem to spend too much time soon scrolling on my phone!

ItWillBeDone · 01/01/2025 08:59

Thank you. I'm aiming for 20+ - will see how I get on. Will add in some reviews this year too.

ExtraDisorganised · 01/01/2025 09:27

Checking in for another year, thank you @Tinkhasflown

@therewasafishinthepercolator same here, I want to read more actual books whether kindle or hardcopy, I love that I can listen to audiobooks while doing other things but I have got out of the habit of just sitting and reading and my concentration span is shot too so I think that would help.

ReturnoftheBink · 01/01/2025 09:42

Thank you for the new thread! I had a lull towards the end of 2024 as was reading a non-fiction that I’m not that into, but not enough to stop. Hopefully will polish that off soon and move onto some good new ones :)

TheDonsDingleberries · 01/01/2025 11:41

Happy New Year!

I'm partway through Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham. A group of friends visit the place that inspired their favourite book, a tale about a group of anthropomorphic animals preparing for their annual Barley Day festival. Only to discover that the characters are real, and truth is far deadlier than fiction.

CordylineCapybara · 01/01/2025 12:33

Hi I'd like to join. Last year was the first time of counting how many books I read in a year and I did 26. I'm going to try and beat it if I can. Currently on Richard Osman's We Solve Murders and Sophie Hannah's Silent Night (I have an 'upstairs book' and a 'downstairs book' to encourage me to read more and scroll less!)

Moier · 01/01/2025 12:36

I read on average 2 novels a week.
Just going through all Freda Mcfadens at the moment . Can't wait for Mark Edwards new one. Also Lisa Jewel and Louise Voss will have new ones. I'm a psychological thriller fan.
At the moment I'm read an actual book and not my kindle.. Vanessa Feltz autobiography.. present for my birthday .. I'm loving it

MargotMoon · 01/01/2025 12:52

Thanks for the new thread Tink and happy new reading year everyone! 📖

Giraff3 · 01/01/2025 13:28

Happy new year all.

I would like to join. Im aiming for 24 books in 2025.
12 x fiction & 12 non fiction.
So 2 x books per month.
Fiction will be between kindle & audible and non fiction physical copies as i type up notes / quotes from them (hate marking books)

Guess i need to choose my fiction book

My none fiction book for this month will be Mental fitness by Ant Middleton

You might find us all a bit slow! The 50 books thread is a lot more fast paced

MercuryRising · 01/01/2025 15:54

Hi. I would love to join. I'm starting 2025 reading I haven't been entirely honest with you by Miranda Hart. I'm going to try to read a combination of fiction and non-fiction in 2025.

cromwell44 · 01/01/2025 19:30

I’d love to join this thread as I lurked a lot last year. I’m about to start Held by Anne Michaels, a Booker shortlist book and am listening to the Safekeep by Yale van der Wouden but I’m not finding it very engaging. I’m interested in what others think of it. I read 27 books last year and thought it was a strong year for new releases.
