Feeling bereft after finishing the Poldark books by Winston Graham, I feel I need another really gripping historical saga to get my teeth into, please

The Jalna series by Mazo de La Roche

Lindsey Davis' Falco series set in ancient Rome and a newer series featuring Falco's adopted British daughter, Flavia Albia. Not exactly a saga but very enjoyable.

Oh yes! Hope you get something good to enjoy. Maybe do a “rebound” book before starting a new series to stop you being cross you’re not reading more poldark?!

If you like historical, but (much) less of a saga, try georgette heyer novels. Or if a saga, but you’re happy with fantasy too, I’m thoroughly embroiled in Robin Hobb at the moment.

Colleen McCoullough’s Masters of Rome series.

Shogun.

The Alexander trilogy by Mary Renault

Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Unsett. It's the first of three novels set in medieval Norway.

Ford Madox Ford: Parade's End
Robert Graves: I Claudius books (and watch the TV series)
The Shardlake Books
The Wolf Hall trilogy

I adore the TV series but struggled with the books. I started The Last Kingdom book series and enjoyed the writing but my focus has wavered, but I’ll be returning to them at some point. Hated Outlander, found it naff, of course you’re talking about time travel not historical realism with that one.

The Sharpe series by Cornwell. Not as well written as the Poldarks, but hugely enjoyable.

Dorothy Dunnett! Lymond or Niccolo, both are good.

I just wanted to say that Poldark is the best ever historical series.
