Loved James Patterson - who else will I enjoy?

Haven't read much for more years than I can remember (or want to admit to!) so rather out of touch with what's popular.
Want to add some reads to my Christmas list.

As the title suggests, I remember avidly reading the Alex Cross series & a few stand alones. Which other crime/thriller authors would appeal to me?
I like a quick moving plot, dark/sinister characters especially.

Help MNers! 🙏

I find James Patterson a very easy read ( and that suits me well at the moment). So JD Robb's Lt Eve Dallas series might suit.

I used to like Karin Slaughter with Sara Linton - not so keen on the Will Trent.

Also Michael Connolly continues to be excellent. Just try the Poet.

I enjoyed Helen Durrant and her 'dead' series first one is 'dead wrong' you don't need to read them in order, but definitely start with the first book.
