Cosy Christmas Story - Read or Audio

Can anybody recommend a cosy Christmas novel that's definitely NOT chick lit? A ghost story would be nice. I love traditional period ghost stories and modern one's that are more psychological and dark in nature. I have tried listening to and reading both Edith Wharton and Henry James but due to the dread factor/building suspense and unlike most books, I think that they translate best to TV It doesn't have to be a ghost story. I enjoyed Milly Johnson's Home for Christmas which isn't my usual choice of novel. I wouldn't want to go any lighter than that.

I'm looking for the same thing! Previous things I've like are the Poirot Christmas stories.
I'm looking at The Party by Tessa Hadley but no other suggestions really. Hopefully someone can suggest some good non-chicklit options!
