Anyone reading it?

I got it on audible and was quite looking forward to it. I've enjoyed his others and thought it would be a fairly easy listen, possibly a bit thought provoking.

I'm half way through and finding it practically unlistenable. I've realised I'm not wild about Joanna Lumley's very precise poshness outside of Ab Fab, but the actual book seems pretty dreadful at this point. As if an environmentalist has taken LSD and is trying to tell the world in great detail how beautiful and precious it is.

Does it get better? Is it worth persevering? Very disappointed, I'm in the middle of a 2 day decorating project and really need a good easy but engaging listen. I don't think this is it, somehow.

Shite! Try project Hail Mary - now that was a really good listen

Started a Joanne Harris and wasn't feeling it so I've resorted to the Archers Omnibus for now. I've read Project Hail Mary and quite liked it, though I thought it was over long and a bit hyped.

I’m reading it at the moment, not listening to it though. It’s quite bonkers, but delightfully so, in my opinion. It’s definitely a bit trippy, I agree 😂

Yes - MH The Life Impossible was…not great. I LOVED the midnight library. And MH is a really decent guy so I made myself listen all the way to the end by which point i wondered if he had gone on a bit of a drugs binge for inspiration because it goes a bit wayward. I think reading it would be better than listening to the audiobook because Joanna Lumley‘s narration is quite hard to listen to, particularly the accents 😬

I’m reading it now, not in audiobook. It was easy to get into and start with, and I got invested despite a bit of distrust about the concept. But now it’s all woo, I’m struggling to stay interested, is it worth it?

ClydeBank · 17/09/2024 23:04

😬 possibly not. U might just want to skip to chapter 116 for the key events and then go and lie down in a darkened room. Unless you like the woo - which some people do- in which case keep going.

Yes, woo plus Joanna has been too much for me. I've taken a break and might come back to it.

I often use an audible credit to listen to something when it first comes out rather than wait for the paperback, but at this point I'm wishing I'd gone fir something else.

Just finished this. Definitely very woo indeed but I ended up being very touched by it. Worth finishing imho.

Pixilicious1 · 21/09/2024 23:35

i am loving it, really enjoying both the story, ‘woo’ though it is and Joanna’s voice which I find melodious and soothing - each to their own!
