Can anyone recommend a new favourite go to based on my favourite authors?

Hi there!

I'm in desperate need of a new favourite go to author/series.

I tend towards crime/thriller as they are an easy option although I do read wider when highly recommended (especially if funny!). I've given up trying to slog through anything too highbrow as I just want to relax/be entertained. That said, I can't stand poorly written crap either. I.e. I'm looking for a well-written page turner!

My all time favourite authors are:

  • Robert Galbraith
  • Anthony Horowitz
  • Ruth Ware

Also recently enjoyed:

  • Lucy Foley
  • Cara Hunter

Does anyone have similar reading habits who could recommend something new?

Thanks and happy reading!

Tim Sullivan's DS Cross series - I've really enjoyed them.

viques · 31/08/2024 09:03

Nikki French

Elly Griffiths ( the Ruth Galloway books, there are about 16 of them so if you like them that will keep you occupied for a bit)

(Elly Griffiths is a good friend of William Boyd mentioned up thread, pointless observation, showing off really!)

Been around for a while but I really liked the Kate Atkinson books about Jackson Brodie.

Mick Herron's Slow Horses books are brilliantly written, funny and thrilling (even if you don't like spy fiction - I don't either)

Try J D Kirk. They are police/crime set in Scotland. They characters are very well done and funny too.

I love PD James especially the Adam Dagleish detective ones. She writes excellent plots - more Agatha Christie ie more mystery than blood and gore thriller type but is a really intelligent writer with wit and more to her characters, strong settings and good twisty plots, often set on Suffolk coast I think from memory. Hard to put down.

YellowphantGrey · 06/09/2024 17:48

Lucy Dawson, Andrea Mara, TJ Logan, James Patterson, Gillian McAllister

Oh and some of Louise Candlish.
