Hi all. Not on a good headspace right now so looking for something light but not awful basically. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear that OP

Any topics to avoid?

spectacled · 02/07/2024 21:20

Thank you @NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy

Unrelated to current circumstances, but since having children I really struggle with anything about child abuse or murder. I don’t think they fall into the easy category though!

Shardlake series
Rivers of London series
Cazalet Chronicles (disclaimer, I haven’t read yet but they keep being suggested to me)
Georgette Heyer (not to everyone’s taste but ultimate comfort reading if you like it. Bridgerton without the sex, and rather better written IMO)

I loved Adults by Marian Keyes. It's not the sort of book I'd usually go for as it's classified as "chick lit", but it's actually anything but. A really easy read but as brilliant on modern economics as it is on relationships.

lol the title is actually "Grown Ups"

Adults is a novel by another writer (also good!)

Marian Keyes, all of them
Dolly Alderton Ghosts or Good Material
Richard Osman Series
David Nicholls One Day or Starter for Ten
Anthony Horowitz The Word is Murder
Emily Henry Book Lovers (mildly cheesy but quite funny)

Mike Gayle writes novels in which everything always turns out well in the end. All the Lonely People is about an older man who overcomes loneliness but he has written quite a few.
Ruth Hogan also writes books described as uplifting. The first one is called The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes .
