I can't remember why I ordered it from the library and I almost gave up on it after 2 pages because I thought it would be too whimsical for me. I'm glad I stuck with it, though, because it's a lovely, well-written book. Has anybody else read it?

Me! I also thought it was v weird and then loved it 😄❤️

I read this too, I think after reading a recommendation somewhere. I loved it.

Hippychickster · 30/06/2024 21:19

I absolutely loved this! It was on a list of 'if you've read this, then you might like...'

I've read most of the books on that list and loved them all!

AbstemiousBreakfast · 30/06/2024 21:31

Oh, do you have the list @Hippychickster?

It was just refreshingly different I think.

Hippychickster · 30/06/2024 21:40

@AbstemiousBreakfast

These are the ones I've read from the list (and a couple of others I liked)

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey
The Measure by Nikki Erlick
Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune
Home Going by Yaa Gyasi

All of them were easy reading (although the content wasn't always easy) but all page turners. Loved all of them!

I also read Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
Our Hideous Progeny by CE McGill

which were on the list but I didn't love them. They were OK.

Thanks @Hippychickster! I tend to read quite randomly, so I'll add these to my library app.

Interesting list. I've read Home Going and it's very good but some parts of it are very upsetting. I didn't rate Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow either. I thought the premise was good and it started well but meandered off into nothing.

I agree about Home Going. That's what I meant about the content not being easy. It was still a good read though.
T and T and T got such amazing reviews but I just didn't think it was that great. If you're not a gamer it was a bit tedious.

HappyKatieA · 30/06/2024 22:28

I started it last week but two pages in thought it wasn't my style.
I'll go back and finish it after my current book, based on your experiences of it, thank you!

I absolutely loved this book. I could do with a Marcellus in my life. What a page turner, an excellent holiday read.

Loved this!
