I have just started reading this and am enjoying it.
But I'm confused.
pg 14 - the second page of the first Warfield's Jarret part.
It says "....the doctor relented and bought Jarret from the Todds".
Who are the Todds?
A LOT is explained in those 2 pages.
Jarret is the young boy. He lived with his Mother in the home of Dr. Warfield and was the nursemaid for Mrs Warfield, though actually preferred to sleep with the horses.
His father (Harry Lewis) lived away, but visited.
The mother died when Jarret was 5. His father asked the doctor to buy his son (his freedom).
It must be obvious because she is a good writer. It's really bugging me.
Help oh book worms of MN.
