So I take a bit of interest in true crime etc. I would like to read some books on psychology particularly criminal stuff. So what motivates people to commit crimes. Are they criminals from the off just waiting for the opportunity or does the opportunity present itself and then they do it.

Also just more mundane stuff like how our moral compass comes about. For example most of us wouldn't dream of stealing but might break the speed limit. Can anyone suggest some reasonably easy to read books on psychology that cover these sorts of topics.

"Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, And Other Sex Offenders" by Anna C. Salter (very hard to read, at times - there's a whole section on sadists that I decided to skip, following the author's own advise!)

"The gift of fear" and "Protecting the gift", by Gavin De Becker (more of self-defense books, but the author gives good insights about how the criminal mind works - know your enemy, as they say).
