I had an hour to kill and spent it at the local library. This was on the "Library Hits" shelf and the cover is pretty, so I read the 1st two chapters and took it home.

It's a bit like a mish-mash of every English historical novel I've ever read. I can't decide if I like it or not but still reading it.

And some of the names are mad. Poor Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott.... I'm shortening her to "Mags" in my head.

Anyone made it through the whole 549pp?

Yes read it all really enjoyed it. The story and people are loosely based on Sarah F's ancestors. Margaret Montague Douglas Scott is a real person but obv artistic licence for the story...

All in all I really enjoyed this book however her second one I couldn't get into AT ALL...

I didn't realise there was a loosely- based real story in there, makes it even better!

It's not quite Penny Vincenzi but I'll preserve
